Do you know what I’ve learned from growing this pretty, pink Rose?
I’ve learned what Roses need from be but also what they can do for me.
> Roses like lots of sun and a little water. They don’t like wet feet.
> They need air flow.
> When cut a flower or prune them they should be cut just above an outward facing bud.
> They can be propagated from cuttings. They will also grow back from root pieces left in the ground or rooted stalks that touch the soil
> You can use them for beauty and medicine and they are cooling and astringent. I make infused Rose oil all the time. (Recipe link in comments.)
> They make a fruit (in this case rose hips).
But just like human families share similar characteristics, genetic information, and likes and dislikes, so do plants. So I can apply this same knowledge to other plants in the Rose Family.
In learning how to grow my Rose, I’ve also learned some how to grow blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, nectarines, almonds, apples, and the other 4,000+ plants in the Rose Family.
When you learn something about one plant in the Rose Family, you learn something about them all. Every plant family works this way.
