Description
A Botany study built for real families that want to use plants in real life.
Botany for Real Life is a comprehensive, self-paced Botany study that gives you the essential Botany knowledge that you need for real world applications – plant identification, gardening, soil building, kitchen and medicinal uses of plants.
This study is for anyone who wants to put their plant knowledge to use. Created by a real-life Botany teacher, who gardens, homesteads, and homeschools, it gives you the essential (not merely academic) knowledge that you need to start off right and start using plants in every day life.
Based on an observational methodology – you learn how to notice, watch, and observe the natural world and interpret what it’s teaching you. As you learn, you create a Botany Journal that grows with you as you record each new lesson, tape in seeds and leaves, make notes and draw diagrams, and create a reference that will serve you for years to come.
Our culture has a compulsion today to learn from the “experts,” but what if you want to learn the way people used to – by watching the plants and animals and drawing conclusions from the processes that you observe. Or by walking alongside a loved one (mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather), and learning from their years of wisdom.
If you grieve the fact that you didn’t have anyone to teach all this when you were a kid, let me step alongside you so that you can learn the Botany basics that you need to start using your plants in everyday life, so that your kids can have the experience that you didn’t – learning to love the plant world from you!
Perfect for home gardeners, homesteaders, and homeschooling families, this Botany study will go with you through the seasons and through the school year with short, easy weekly lessons, that will fill in the gaps in your Botany education by the year’s end.
How It Works…
- Read a short lesson. Cover 2-3 lessons or activities a week — about an hour total.
- Build your Botany Journal. Every lesson includes notes, a diagram, or observation for you to record in your Botany journal. You’ll build your journal as you go, so that you have a handmade record of your learning by the end that you’ll be able to refer to for years to come.
- Use what you learn. Nearly every lesson encourages you to observe something, gives you a hands-on activity, or prompts you to put your knowledge to use in some practical way – go on a nature walk, get out to the garden, dissect a flower, save some seeds, are just some of the practical activities that you can implement.
What’s Inside…
- 83 core lessons, short and sweet lessons on topics like seeds and germination, leaves and photosynthesis, parts of a flower, pollination, leaf shapes and margins, fruits and vegetables, seed saving, roots and underground storage structures like bulbs and tubers, stems and trees, non-vascular plants like moss and lichen, and more.
- A Scope and Sequence with built-in catch-up weeks, so falling behind is never a problem.
- Gardening in Real Life — 16 extra lessons on planning, building soil, starting seeds, and growing a garden that feeds itself.
- Bonus: Botanical Art Appendix — learn some botanical art basics that will also teach you plant identification at the same time. This is a great supplement to the Botany Journal technique used in the main study as it teaches you how to illustrate your own journal with the plants you see in real life.
- Printer Friendly Version! Save your printer ink! Print the Printer Friendly version for reference and reading and access the diagrams and photos in your digital copy.
